From 1138 to 1460, the Sanframondo, feudal lords of Norman origin, were the masters of Guardia, a small commune in the Sannio territory of the province of Benevento. During the four centuries in which the Norman seigneurie ruled the land, the Sanframondos encouraged cultural, economic and social development, and founded a fortified settlement at what is now Guardia Sanframondi. The territory has its own special site climates where rows of vines and the green foliage of the olive trees cover the unspoilt, sun-kissed slopes. This is the home of the Corte Normanna estate, which for more than seven decades has applied its skills, heritage and passion to the continuous improvement of quality through meticulous selection, sophisticated technological innovation and the generous efforts of its workers.
Corte Normanna is a family-run farm that extends over a total area of 20 hectars, 18 of which are planted to specialised vineyards and 2 to olive groves. Currently the estate uses Organic farming.
Tasting note: The Aglianico, "Prince of the South" is a grape vine of great value and is grown in the sunny hills of Sannio. The Aglianico "Corte Normanna" has a ruby red colour tending to burgundy during the aging process. It is intense to the nose, exalted by feelings of purple flowers that perfectly blend with a variety of spices, delicate to the palate, given from the grape itself, with a tannic balance. The aged wooden barrels, both large and small, manage to tame the rudeness of the Aglianico grape without becoming intrusive or dominant.
Food Pairing: Grilled red meats, roasts, game, mature cheeses.
